430 students start university year on Ibiza and Formentera

At the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) campus on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, 430 students have begun classes this academic year. Of them, 391 are taking undergraduate courses and 39 are studying for the Master’s in Teacher Training. On Thursday, the university also opened the academic year in a formal ceremony attended by 30 students who finished their undergraduate studies last year.

UIB rector Jaume Carot took part in the event. Modern History professor Miquel Josep Deyà gave the opening lecture, titled El debate sobre los límites del poder del Estado en los siglos XVI y XVII.

The campus offers classroom-based courses in Business Administration, Law, a combined Early Childhood and Primary Education degree, Nursing, Tourism and Computer Engineering. Three tourism qualifications are also available through UIBTalent.

The Pitiusas campus opened in 1997. Since then, 1,093 students have graduated there and another 320 have completed postgraduate study; 73.8% are women. The University for Older People had 233 students last academic year.
