Man found dead off Menorca as police search for his name
A man found dead in the sea off Cala en Brut, near Ciutadella on Menorca, remains unidentified as police check local hotels for clues. His body was spotted on Monday during storms linked to the Adam weather system. The Guardia Civil says the man was between 60 and 70 years old and wore only swimming trunks.
Emergency services were alerted at about 18.00. Firefighters reached the body by boat, 20 to 30 metres from shore, and took it to Ciutadella’s old harbour. Yellow and orange warnings for rain and thunderstorms were in force on Menorca that day.
Investigators found no identification on the man and no clothing or belongings on the coast that they could link to him. Police are considering whether he was from abroad and either lived on Menorca or was on holiday there. Checks at hotels and other tourist businesses have produced no lead, and no matching missing-person report has been received.
A post-mortem examination took place on Wednesday morning, but its preliminary findings have not been released. Investigators hope it will help establish who the man was and whether he drowned or suffered a medical emergency.
