Urda train crash: Iberia adds 1,080 seats to flights
1,080 extra seats between Madrid and Andalusia: Iberia expands its flights on Thursday, 29 October, after a train crash on Wednesday in Urda, Toledo province. That puts its capacity for Thursday 42% above plan. Air Europa is adding flights to Málaga and Seville in response to the crash too, both airlines told Europa Press.
Extra flights to Málaga and Seville
Iberia is adding 720 seats between Madrid and Málaga and 360 between Madrid and Seville on Thursday. It has scheduled six extra flights and is using a larger aircraft on one Málaga service.
On Friday, eight more flights will provide another 1,760 seats. Iberia expects to offer 3,280 extra seats from Wednesday to Friday — 47% more than planned — and says it is working on further flights for the days ahead.
Fare caps and Air Europa flights
Iberia is capping fares on flights to or from Andalusia until 8 November at 99 euros each way in economy and 149 euros in business. Passengers whose planned flights have been disrupted by the crash can arrange ticket changes on 900 111 500.
Air Europa has added one daily return service to Málaga and one to Seville. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, it is adding a second extra return service to Seville, bringing its total there to as many as four a day.
