Mallorca woman still missing after Urda train crash
Mallorca’s Mari Carmen García is still missing after Wednesday’s train crash in Urda, Toledo province: her family searched hospitals in Madrid overnight into Thursday but did not find her. García, from Inca, lives and works in Madrid. She is believed to have been in carriage seven or eight of a train bound for Sevilla, but her condition is unknown.
Family searches hospitals
Relatives and people who work with García are sharing appeals on social media. Her family has reported her disappearance to Spain’s Guardia Civil police and provided samples for DNA comparison.
David Ruiz, the mayor of Rute in Córdoba province, where García has family ties, said her relatives were devastated. They still hope she may be among seriously injured people who have not yet been identified.
False report corrected
After a minute’s silence in Palma on Wednesday, Balearic government president Marga Prohens repeated an IB3 report that García was out of danger. The broadcaster later corrected its claim that she was in a hospital in Toledo. She remains missing.
Following another minute’s silence at Palma’s Intermodal station on Thursday, Prohens said the Balearic government was taking steps to find García. She would not describe them out of respect for the family. For now, she said, they must wait.
