Balearics used-car prices jump 13.5% in August

Used cars in the Balearics cost an average 13,455 euros in August, 13.5% more than a year earlier. The islands recorded the largest price increase among Spain’s 17 autonomous communities, the vehicle trade association Ancove said on Tuesday. Prices were also 5.3% higher than in July, compared with a 0.5% monthly rise across Spain.

The national average was 13,466 euros, up 3.4% on August 2025. That remains below the 13,610-euro average recorded across Spain in March.

Older cars push up prices

Cars more than eight years old averaged 10,618 euros in the Balearics, a 13.4% annual increase. Across Spain, the same age group averaged 11,146 euros, up 6.7%.

These older vehicles accounted for 63.8% of all ownership transfers nationwide in August. Ancove said they were behind the overall increase in used-car prices.

Higher-priced cars gain ground

Sales of used cars costing more than 36,000 euros rose 15% in August. Those priced between 28,000 and 36,000 euros increased by 17%.

Cheaper vehicles still made up much of the market: cars below 6,000 euros accounted for 44% of August sales. Vehicles priced above 28,000 euros represented 11.8%.

Ancove also pointed to Plan Auto+, the support scheme for electrified cars which came into force in August. Its president, Eric Iglesias, said almost all of the 400 million euros budget — including 350 million euros for private buyers — had already been used, leaving the scheme dependent on a budget extension.
