Balearic used car sales dip as Spain's market grows

Mallorca and the rest of Spain's Balearic Islands record 45,070 used car and SUV sales through September: a 0.5% fall from the same period in 2025. September alone brings 4,884 sales, down 2.9% on September 2025. The figures come from motor trade bodies Ganvam, which represents official and independent sellers, and Faconauto, which represents dealerships.

The islands are moving against the national trend. Across Spain, 1,640,051 used cars and SUVs change hands through September, up 2.6% from the same period last year.

Spain-wide, sales of used vehicles up to five years old rise 5.2% and account for 26% of the market. Yet vehicles over 15 years old still make up 41.6% of sales. Second-hand fully electric car sales climb 39.8%, while used plug-in hybrids gain 46.9%. The trade bodies say the relatively young supply of plug-in models partly explains the growth in newer used cars.

The average used car sold in Spain is 11.4 years old. Ganvam and Faconauto say the country urgently needs a national plan to renew its vehicle fleet.
