Balearic Islands used vehicle sales fall 11.8%
Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands record 6,212 used-vehicle sales in October: that is 11.8% fewer than a year earlier. The total includes 5,195 cars and 1,017 light commercial vehicles, Spain’s National Association of Vehicle Traders (Ancove) says on Thursday, 5 November. Car sales fall 11% from a year earlier, while light commercial vehicle sales drop 15.9%.
The Balearics lag behind Spain
Since the start of the year, 61,899 used vehicles have been sold across the Balearic Islands, down 0.9% on the same period last year. That includes 50,913 cars, down 0.4%, and 10,986 light commercial vehicles, down 3.3%. Across Spain, used-vehicle sales are up 1.9% so far this year.
October is weaker nationwide, too. Spain records 232,246 used car and van sales, a fall of 6.6% from October 2025.
Older vehicles lose ground
Across Spain, Ancove says the drop in used-car sales is concentrated among vehicles aged six to ten years and those older still. Demand continues to grow for newer cars, particularly those less than 12 months old. Used vans more than three years old also sell less well than a year earlier.
Petrol and diesel cars account for 80.7% of Spain’s October sales, while demand for electric cars rises 34.4% and for petrol plug-in hybrids 37.2%. Ancove president Eric Iglesias criticises the exclusion of newer used cars and vans from aid schemes, arguing that they matter to a safer, more efficient vehicle fleet.
