Valencia storm kills four as Spain plans sick leave
Four people are dead after storm Adam hits the Valencian Community, Spain: the government plans special sick leave for workers affected by disasters like it. Spain’s cabinet is due to approve the measure on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
Social Security and Migration Minister Elma Saiz told TVE that a decree-law would widen social security protection for affected workers. She did not set out who would qualify.
The cabinet also plans to extend bereavement pensions to couples who have not registered their relationship, provided they can show two years of living together and have children together. A further change would extend the benefit for caring for children and young people with cancer or another serious illness beyond age 26 in cases involving grade III dependency or a disability level of 65%.
