Mallorca PISA row: Vox blames immigration for scores

A row over Mallorca’s schools has erupted in the Parliament in Palma, where a Vox MP blamed immigration for the Balearic Islands’ poor PISA results on Tuesday. Education Minister Antoni Vera instead blamed the Lomloe.

The clash came as Socialist MP Amanda Fernández challenged the government over the start of the school year. She said classes had begun with very high temperatures in school buildings and playgrounds without shade.

Vera hit back by saying that, if MPs took PISA tests, the PSIB would score “well below the national average”. He said nearly all teaching posts had been allocated in July and pointed to 250 million euros for better working conditions, more teachers and psychologists in primary schools.

The minister also cited the rollout of the teacher-authority decree, an excellence baccalaureate programme and free transport for vocational training. He defended a return to books in place of screens, while the Vox MP said every education reform introduced by the PSOE had made matters worse.
