Mallorca’s vets expect 240 people at Casa Esment in Marratxí, Mallorca, on Saturday, 3 October, to mark the feast of their patron saint, St Francis of Assisi. The Official College of Veterinarians of the Balearic Islands (Covib), which is organising the gathering, announced the plans on Friday. Balearic minister for agriculture, fisheries and the natural environment Joan Simonet and Balearic Public Health Agency director Alberto Anguera are expected to attend.

The programme includes a reading of the veterinary oath and badges for new college members. Vets who have worked in the profession for 25 or 50 years will be honoured, with further awards to be announced.

Covib president Ana Sancha will speak at her first St Francis celebration in the role. She plans to set out the college’s priorities, particularly recognition for the veterinary profession and the emotional wellbeing of its members.
