Mallorca: women can get help without reporting violence
On Mallorca, women facing violence can get help without filing a complaint. A new protocol presented on Friday, 30 October, sets common standards for public services across the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Women’s Institute (IBDona) says support must not depend on a complaint, whatever form the violence takes.
Services must respect each woman’s decisions and pace. The protocol also puts the rights of their children at its centre. It aims to make prevention, detection and support work together, while reducing how often women have to recount what happened to them. Staff must take trauma into account and avoid putting women through further harm.
The rules cover every island and municipality. They will also guide reviews of procedures for individual services. A commission coordinated by the Balearic Women’s Institute will meet at least once a year, and the protocol will be reviewed at least every two years.
