Mallorca trains staff to help women facing violence

Women facing violence are set to receive stronger support under a new Mallorca training plan for the professionals who work with them. The Consell de Mallorca announced the programme on 20 September. It aims to help staff spot violence, intervene and support women.

Professionals from services within the Network for the Care of Victims of Gender-based Violence will teach the courses. The island authority will also take the training to different municipalities across Mallorca to make it easier for professionals to attend.

Toni Fuster, the island councillor for Presidency, said staff on the front line need the training, knowledge and tools to deal with increasingly complex cases. He said improving their preparation would also strengthen the protection and support women receive.

The plan covers gender-based violence among teenagers, sexual violence, criminal proceedings and initial protection. It also includes immigration law and international protection, civil cases and family break-ups, suicide prevention, receiving victims and group interventions.
