Palma visitor thrown from moving van

A visitor to Mallorca was found tied up and beaten on the s’Aranjassa road in Palma on Tuesday after, police say, three men forced him into a van and threw him out while it was moving. He had come to the island to see a friend living at a country property in Palma municipality. National Police arrested three men on suspicion of unlawful detention, assault and threats.

The visitor told officers that he had been left alone at the property when the three men entered. He said they tied him up, hit him and put him in the van before abandoning him a few kilometres away.

Police say the men also threatened to do the same to his friend. When the resident returned, the description of the attackers led officers to a worker at the property. Police found the van at the worker’s home and made the first arrest.

Investigators from the National Police robbery unit believe the property owner may have hired two other men, alongside the worker, over financial differences or to force the resident out of the house. They believe the attackers may have mistaken the visitor for the man who lived there, and used the assault as a warning to their intended target.

The other two suspects were arrested after a police search.
