Mallorca: 873 more vocational training places

Mallorca has 873 more first-year vocational training places as the 2026/27 course begins on Monday. The island has 11,523 places, while more than 21,000 students have enrolled across the Balearic Islands. Education and Universities Minister Antoni Vera announced the figures in Palma on Thursday.

The Balearic vocational training system, known in Spain as FP, is offering 14,479 first-year places in all, up 464 on last year. Mallorca accounts for the biggest increase.

New courses in Palma

The islands are adding 25 training courses and two specialist courses, taking the total to 126 courses across 24 professional fields.

Two programmes are being introduced in the Balearics for the first time, both in Palma. Institut Josep Maria Llompart will teach Applied Environmental Health, while Institut Guillén Sagrera will offer Safe and Sustainable Mobility.

Free school transport is also being extended to vocational training students across the Balearics. Until now, it was available only to pupils taking Bachillerato, Spain’s upper-secondary school qualification.

Focus on school dropouts

Vera called vocational training a key tool in tackling early school leaving. He said the Balearic Islands’ study-interruption rate stood at 15.2% in March, down from 20.14% in 2024.

On Menorca, the new Integrated Vocational Training Centre in Ciutadella will open this course. The government wants it to become a reference centre for hotel and tourism training on the island.

The next major event is set for 3 and 4 November, when 30 student teams will take part in a vocational training hackathon. They will work on circular-economy challenges set by Balearic businesses.
