Vox names Mallorca researcher Cerezo to replace Campos
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands: researcher Maribel Cerezo replaces sitting MP Jorge Campos as Vox’s lead candidate for the islands in Spain’s 29 November general election. Vox announced its list on 21 October. Campos says he will return to Balearic politics after the vote.
Cerezo teaches and researches at Cesag in Palma, Mallorca. She trained as a researcher at Imedea-CSIC on the island and took part in the Malaspina expedition. She has also taught in Calvià, Mallorca, and other state schools. She holds a degree in marine sciences and a doctorate in science and technology.
Former Balearic MP Antonio Salvá is second on the list. He served in Spain’s Congress of Deputies from 2019 to 2023. Melina Merki, vice-president of Vox in the Balearic Islands and coordinator of its group in the Balearic Parliament, follows him. The party’s regional leader, Gabriel Le Senne, says the list represents all the islands.
Campos thanked Vox leader Santiago Abascal for his trust in a post on X. He also said a bill to protect Spanish and linguistic freedom had been drafted and was ready for the next government to approve.
