Mallorca’s Vox vice-president Bestard faces sack call
Mallorca’s second island council vice-president, Pedro Bestard, faces a demand for his dismissal on 2 November 2026 amid court proceedings involving the Vox politician. In Palma, Mallorca, MÉS per Mallorca calls on island council president Llorenç Galmés to sack him. The party also wants political accountability over a court case involving Gabriel Le Senne, the Vox politician who leads the Balearic parliament.
Claims over council cars
MÉS per Mallorca’s parliamentary spokesman, Lluís Apesteguia, alleges that Bestard removed the markings from three island council cars and used them privately. He also says Bestard bought fuel at 05.00, when no council event was scheduled. Apesteguia says Galmés must remove Bestard from office.
Apesteguia says Le Senne is politically and morally unfit to lead parliament. He holds Balearic government president Marga Prohens responsible for Le Senne remaining in the post.
The Socialist PSIB calls the situation “untenable”. Its parliamentary spokesman, Iago Negueruela, says a date has been set for Le Senne’s trial and criticises both men for defending their conduct.
Jobs and tourism on Tuesday’s agenda
At Tuesday’s parliamentary sitting, the Socialists plan to challenge the Balearic government over what they call unfulfilled commitments on economic diversification and healthcare facilities. Negueruela also criticises its management of healthcare and calls on regional vice-president Antoni Costa to introduce aid programmes for workers unemployed after the tourist season.
Negueruela also criticises tourism minister Jaume Bauzá for taking issue with comments on tourism by Mallorca’s bishop, Sebastià Taltavull. He says the government is failing to recognise the problem of tourist overcrowding.
