Mallorca: Vox seeks tax-free first-home purchases
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, could see first-home buyers pay no tax on their purchase under a proposal Vox has filed in the Balearic Parliament. The exemption would cover new and second-hand homes bought as a main residence. Vox spokeswoman Manuela Cañadas set out the plan in Palma on 7 October, after a meeting of parliamentary group spokespeople.
Vox also wants to cut or scrap taxes it says raise building costs and the final price of homes. Its proposal would give Spanish citizens priority for protected housing and public aid.
Cañadas says construction has stalled while millions of people enter the housing market each year. She also blames what she calls “open borders” policies for making young Spanish people and workers compete for housing. For now, the tax changes and housing priorities are proposals, not rules in force.
