Mallorca: Vox rejects housing decrees as election ploy
Palma, Mallorca: Vox says it will not support two new Spanish housing decrees, calling them an election ploy. Manuela Cañadas, the party’s spokesperson in the Balearic Parliament, made the accusation on Tuesday, 29 September, after Spain’s Council of Ministers approved the measures.
Cañadas accused the government of waiting eight years to act on housing while, she said, more than 750,000 evictions took place. She called the decrees hypocritical and said Vox’s leadership had already ruled out supporting anything put forward by this government.
The decrees extend protection against eviction until 2030 and regulate seasonal and room rentals. They also bar purchases by so-called “vulture funds” until 2028. Existing rental contracts due to end before 31 December 2028 would be extended by two years.
