In Palma, Mallorca, on Wednesday, Vox spokeswoman Manuela Cañadas calls illegal migration the Balearic Islands’ biggest risk and demands migrant returns. She is responding to regional president Marga Prohens on the second day of the Balearic Parliament’s general policy debate.

Returns like Ceuta

Prohens called on Tuesday for migrant returns in the Balearics, as she said was happening in Ceuta. Cañadas backs that call. She says what has happened in Ceuta shows what could lie ahead for the islands, and argues that people who commit crimes or come to live on benefits should leave.

Housing and a possible PP deal

Cañadas names housing as the islands’ second major problem. She blames past left-wing policies and Spain’s housing law, and calls for tax measures and the release of land for building homes, with residents given priority.

She also offers the conservative People’s Party (PP) a new agreement after the next election. Vox, she says, deserves a share of the credit for what the PP-led administration has achieved this term.
