Mallorca: Vox targets non-EU home buyers with tax plan
Mallorca’s capital, Palma, could have separate tax rules for homebuyers from outside the European Union under a Vox plan to curb foreign property purchases. The party put the proposal to Palma City Council on 21 October 2026 as part of a wider package on housing. Its council spokesman, Fulgencio Coll, points to an estimated shortage of around 30,000 homes across the Balearic Islands.
Who would get priority
Vox also wants to find ways to limit demand from foreign buyers who do not live in Spain. It says Spanish citizens should get priority for public housing and housing aid. Under another proposal, Spanish buyers would pay no tax on a first home they intend to live in.
More homes and longer lets
The party wants more land made available for building and more public housing. It proposes tax incentives for long-term rentals and says the interests of landlords and tenants should be better balanced. It also wants occupied homes cleared in less than 24 hours.
Coll blames poor lawmaking and disruption to housing supply and demand for the crisis. For now, these are Vox proposals, not rules adopted for buyers or tenants in Palma.
