In Madrid, Spain, Vox is keeping a joint Senate bid with the People’s Party (PP) on the table for the 29 November election. Candidate applications are open, but Vox spokeswoman Pepa Rodríguez de Millán said on Wednesday that her party was in no rush to settle a deal.

The talks follow an agreement by the PSOE, Frente Amplio and regional left-wing parties to run together. They want to stop a split in their vote handing the PP another absolute majority in the Senate. Vox leader Santiago Abascal then offered to work with the PP, while PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo confirmed that the parties were seeking an agreement.

Feijóo has suggested giving Vox senators appointed by Spain’s autonomous communities. He says the aim is to secure three fifths of Senate seats, which would allow the parties to renew the Constitutional Court and the General Council of the Judiciary.

Rodríguez de Millán gave no details of the talks but said Vox was willing to make concessions. The deadline for submitting candidates closes at 00.00 on Monday 26, and she indicated that Vox could use all the time available.
