Mallorca budget row: Vox demands past deals first
In Palma, Mallorca, Vox says earlier agreements must be honoured in the coming talks over the Balearic budget. Party spokeswoman Manuela Cañadas made that her first condition on 20 October 2026, after the opening session of the Balearic parliament’s general policy debate. She also said criticisms of Vox by regional president Marga Prohens were unfair and inaccurate.
Cañadas argued that most measures approved during the current parliamentary term had passed thanks to Vox. Her party had called for many of them, she said, particularly on tax. She also challenged Prohens’s plan to remove taxes on home purchases by people under 36, saying there should be no age limit.
The question now is whether Prohens’s People’s Party (PP) still sees Vox as a partner for the budget. Cañadas said she was surprised that the PP could strike deals with every parliamentary group, while Vox regarded itself as a natural partner. She said Vox would not seek to obstruct a measure that could benefit people in the Balearics and the rest of Spain. The party plans to answer Prohens’s criticisms in parliament on Wednesday.
