Palma school air conditioning: Vox backs it after no vote

Palma, Mallorca: Vox now backs air conditioning in schools after voting down classroom cooling proposals last week. Fulgencio Coll, the party’s spokesman on Palma City Council, says on 29 September 2026 that he is “completely in favour”. Last week, fellow Vox councillor Luis Acosta opposed air conditioning in schools, arguing that pupils used to study without it.

Coll says Vox voted against proposals from the socialist PSIB and MÉS per Palma, not against cooling schools. He accuses PSIB of failing to act during eight years in government, then seeking a wide-ranging plan in the three months left this year. He also says there is no money set aside in the budget for the work.

Vox will bring its own proposal to the next council meeting this month, Coll says, calling for the greatest possible effort to install cooling. He says schools are the responsibility of the Balearic government, not the city council. He also backs climate control in health centres, care homes, centres for older people and other municipal buildings. He gives no timetable for any of them.
