Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, has a change on its Senate ballot for the 29 November election: the conservative People’s Party (PP) is giving its second spot to Vox. That takes the PP’s Marina Fiscaletti off its Mallorca list. Vox will not field its own Senate list in any of the islands’ four constituencies, the Balearic PP announced on 26 October.

The PP says its ballot papers will bring together centre-right votes across all four islands. Fiscaletti had been due to stand second on its Mallorca list; the party thanked her for stepping aside.

The two parties have discussed a joint Senate bid. The PP wants to keep its absolute majority and reach a three-fifths majority, which would allow it to choose people for the renewal of institutions including Spain’s General Council of the Judiciary.

Vox is also dropping its own Senate lists in five other provinces. It will field just one candidate in 14 more and contest the remaining 23 as usual.
