Ibiza Senate race: Vox agrees not to field candidate

Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands: Vox will not field a Senate candidate on the island under a deal with the People's Party (PP). PP candidate Carmen Ferrer welcomed the move on 27 October, saying it brought a change of government closer. She said the agreement was part of the PP’s national effort to keep a centre-right majority in the Senate.

Ferrer said both sides had made concessions to pursue that change. She accused the government of trying to use the Senate to block it and argued that the chamber should protect judicial independence and the separation of powers.

For Ibiza, Ferrer put immigration and security among her priorities. She called for tighter controls on irregular immigration and more Civil Guard and National Police officers on the island, particularly during the tourist season. She also pressed for fairer funding for the Balearic Islands and said a road-funding agreement could not wait.
