Mallorca influencers: Vox seeks Spanish-language contracts
Vox wants the Consell de Mallorca to hire Spanish-language content creators for its own campaigns. The party will put the proposal before the council at its next plenary meeting. It also calls for grants to make Spanish-language video series for social media.
The motion would open cultural venues and facilities to creators making material about culture, sport, society and leisure. Vox says agreements with those sites should let them use the spaces for their work.
Prizes and online reach
Vox also wants awards and competitions for the island’s Spanish-language creators. Its proposal calls for help to get them into festivals, fairs and international events, with the aim of raising the profile of both the creators and Spanish beyond Mallorca.
The party further proposes deals with major digital platforms. It says these should improve the visibility of Spanish-language content and provide tools for creators.
Vox alleges language discrimination
David Gil, Vox’s deputy spokesman at the Consell de Mallorca, says young Mallorcans who create online content have followers, generate economic activity and take Mallorca to an outside audience. He accuses institutions of using public money to discriminate against them because of the language they use.
Gil says Vox is not seeking special treatment for Spanish, but equality and linguistic freedom. He wants people on Mallorca to be able to make YouTube channels, TikTok videos, Twitch broadcasts or Instagram content in the language they choose without having to justify that choice to an administration.
The proposal now goes to the next plenary meeting of the Consell de Mallorca.
