Mallorca MPs honour Vox politician María José Verdú, 58
Mallorca: MPs at the Balearic parliament in Palma hold a minute’s silence on Tuesday for Vox politician María José Verdú, who died on Friday aged 58 after a long illness. Every parliamentary group joins the tribute as the sitting begins shortly after 09.00. Parliament president and Vox leader Gabriel Le Senne thanks the groups for their condolences.
Born in Palma, Verdú had been an MP since 2023. She was her party’s deputy parliamentary spokesperson and chaired the Balearic parliament’s Health Committee. She also led its inquiry into the case known as Koldo. Since 2025, she had overseen management and finances on Vox’s Balearic provincial executive and had served as a councillor in Bunyola, Mallorca.
Le Senne remembers her as “an exceptional colleague and a friend”. Balearic government president Marga Prohens describes her as warm and approachable. Socialist parliamentary leader Iago Negueruela writes that people come before politics.
