Mallorca gets €6.9 million from Balearic waste fund
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, is in line for €6.9 million for waste management: the Balearic government approved the transfer to its island council on 2 October. It is Mallorca’s share of a €10.2 million fund divided among the four island councils. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said the money comes from a tax collected in 2025 on dumping and incinerating waste.
Mallorca takes the largest share, at 67.3%. Eivissa receives €2.6 million, Menorca €462,400 and Formentera €262,200. Each island’s allocation reflects the tax collected there.
The fund aims to prevent waste and encourage reuse and recycling rather than dumping or incineration. The island councils will manage the money in their areas. The intended final beneficiaries are the local bodies that treat household and municipal waste.
