Mallorca watch robbery foiled after street struggle
A 62-year-old British man fought off an attempt to steal his high-value watch in Puerto Portals, Mallorca, in the early hours of 19 September. After several minutes of struggling, the suspect ran off empty-handed. Guardia Civil officers arrested a 22-year-old the following day.
The man was walking home when he was approached in the street by someone trying to take the watch, the Guardia Civil said. Officers searched the area after speaking to him but did not find the suspected attacker that night.
The next day, a security guard at a business in the area alerted a Guardia Civil patrol after spotting the man. Officers nearby identified and arrested him shortly afterwards.
The 22-year-old has been handed to the courts as part of an investigation into attempted robbery with violence.
