Mallorca: €34,000 in watches stolen from two tourists
At Playa de Palma, Mallorca, two men pin down a tourist and tear a watch worth more than €14,000 from his wrist. The attack happens in Calle Cartago at about 22.00 on 23 October, as he heads to his accommodation. Spain’s National Police arrest a man on Wednesday over that attack and the theft of a second tourist’s €20,000 watch.
Police say the first man offered the tourist a handshake. When the tourist refused, the man grabbed him from behind and twisted his arm back. A second man stepped in front of him and used his leg to block his way. The first man pulled off the watch, and both fled.
The other theft happened in the early hours of 16 October, also at Playa de Palma. Police say a man believed to be a street seller offered a tourist cocaine. The tourist refused and walked away, but the man lightly caught his forearm and slipped off his watch without him noticing at the time.
Investigators identified the man they suspect took the watches. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery with violence in the first case and theft in the second.
