Mallorca water bike race draws over 400 to Andratx

More than 400 people race water bikes in the port of Andratx on Mallorca on Sunday, 27 September: they pedal around a marked course, trying to finish fastest. The Council of Mallorca organises the event, the second in its water bike circuit.

The bikes combine pedal power with the flotation of a paddle board. Racers compete in five categories, and anyone aged 12 or over, or at least 1.50 m tall, can take part. The programme also includes diving, underwater photography, big paddle surf, canoeing and sailing. Canoeists Joan Toni Moreno and Maria Àngels Moreno, from Pollença on Mallorca, join one of the races as special guests.

The circuit's third event is due at the port of Alcúdia on Mallorca in November. The council says water bikes have also become part of its regular workshops and outings for young and older people.
