Eivissa, Ibiza, is set for 17 million euros of water upgrades: every meter is due to provide real-time usage figures, while new drains aim to help the city cope with heavy rain. The city council signed a 20-year drinking water and sewage contract with Aqualia on 8 October 2026. The investment is planned for the first eight years.

Meters and rainwater drains

The council says remote readings from all water meters should help the service spot possible leaks earlier and improve customer care.

The plan also includes renewing pipes and building separate networks for rainwater. These are intended to improve drainage and reduce risks during heavy rain.

More work beyond the initial investment

The contract also includes an infrastructure fund of nearly two million euros a year. Plans for it include new water technology and the gradual development of a network for treated water, which could be used for irrigation, street cleaning and firefighting.

Aqualia also plans new offices and a building with a control centre and a room for public information. New vehicles and equipment are planned too, including robotic cameras to inspect underground pipes.
