Ibiza water lorry noise sparks balcony protests

Eivissa, Ibiza: residents on Calle Vicente Serra hang banners from their balconies, demanding that street-cleaning lorries fill up with water elsewhere so they can sleep. The noise comes from the lorries loading water on their street. On 22 October 2026, the Vox group on Eivissa City Council calls for urgent action.

The filling point draws underground water from beneath the car park on Calle González Abarca. The council uses it to wash streets and water some of the city’s green spaces. Vox councillor Luis Astorri says the arrangement saves desalinated water and public resources, but should not come at the cost of residents’ rest.

Astorri wants the water supply kept in use while the council reviews how the lorries fill up and considers other sites. Vox also wants a review of waste collection routes and times. It says collections in residential areas can overlap during the same rest period, bringing more noise overnight and early in the morning.
