Three breaks in the drinking water line to Pollença, Mallorca, trigger emergency repairs because the faults could put the public supply at risk. They occurred on 11 September, 3 October and 13 October 2026. The Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (Abaqua) took action at all three sites.

Two repairs still pending in technical reports

The first break was on a section of pipe by the Can Planes reservoir in the municipality of Alcúdia, Mallorca. That repair is complete and cost 40,950 euros.

The other two breaks struck at different points between the Can Planes and Can Puig reservoirs. Work on them had not finished when the technical reports were prepared. The estimated costs were 82,600 and 74,930 euros respectively.

Two wastewater pipes break on Eivissa

Abaqua also repaired two wastewater pipes on Eivissa to prevent possible discharges into the natural environment and restore normal operation. One broke on 11 September between the S’Argamassa pumping station and the Santa Eulària des Riu treatment plant. Its repair cost 24,600 euros.

The second broke on 22 September between the L’Antigua pumping station and the Sant Antoni de Portmany treatment plant. That repair cost 29,900 euros.

On 30 October 2026, the Balearic government took note of the five emergency measures. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said they had been handled under an exceptional procedure for cases of serious danger requiring an immediate response. It allows Abaqua to make the repairs needed to prevent further harm and restore essential services as quickly as possible.
