Mallorca water strike could affect over 250,000 users
A four-day water-sector strike could affect more than 250,000 users on Mallorca and across the rest of the Balearic Islands on 16–19 November. The UGT union has called the walkout. It has not said whether water supplies will be disrupted.
UGT said on Thursday that the islands’ two employers’ associations had refused to negotiate a regional agreement with workers’ representatives. The union wants better pay in a sector it describes as precarious. It also wants wages protected if prices continue to rise.
The union says pay increases should make up for the spending power workers have lost to inflation. If the employers’ associations do not join talks, UGT says it may take further action.
