€200,000 fund opens for Mallorca wildlife projects

A €200,000 fund for threatened wildlife projects in Spain opens on 16 September, with marine and other aquatic animals eligible for the first time. Fundación Endesa launched the call in Madrid, offering €100,000 to each of two winning projects. Projects in Mallorca can apply as part of the nationwide scheme.

The funding is split between bird conservation and work protecting land and aquatic animals. The new aquatic category covers marine species as well as animals linked to rivers, wetlands and other water ecosystems.

Applications must be submitted through Fundación Endesa’s website by 16 October 2026. The foundation will assess entries from 20 October to 25 November, before a specially appointed expert jury selects the two winners in December.

The first call, held in 2025, included a project in the Balearics. SEO/BirdLife received support for work to cut the impact of light pollution on the Balearic shearwater and the Mediterranean Cory’s shearwater.

The other award went to the Fundación para la Investigación en Etología y Biodiversidad, helping expand breeding and recovery capacity for the European mink, which the foundation describes as Europe’s most threatened mammal.
