Mallorca floods: 63-year-old dies in Felanitx
A 63-year-old woman has died after floodwater swept her along a street in Felanitx, Mallorca, on Wednesday. She had been walking to her parked car before going to work when she fell near Calle Bellpuig, according to the town council.
People found her at about 15:00, lying on the ground and in cardiac arrest. They called emergency services and began CPR before SAMU 061 emergency crews and a local doctor took over. Her death was confirmed at the scene.
The Guardia Civil’s initial view is that she may have slipped or tripped in the street. With heavy rain falling, she then drowned. Its Judicial Police team from Manacor is gathering evidence, while Felanitx Local Police also attended.
Flooding affected several parts of Felanitx during the day, although the council said conditions had returned to normal after 18:00. The council has cancelled Wednesday’s Cas Concos festival events because of the death and the adverse weather.
