Mallorca: Palma plans 105 women's shelter places

In Palma, Mallorca, the city plans to expand temporary shelter for women who have suffered gender-based violence and their children from 76 places to 105. City government spokesman Llorenç Bauzá announced the plan on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. Palma City Council has approved a second exceptional extension of the current shelter contract while it starts work on a new one for 2026 to 2030.

The new contract would increase the number of places by 37 per cent, with 3.5 million euros allocated to the service — 36 per cent more than under the current contract.

The shelters provide a safe place to stay and specialist care while women recover and work towards living independently. The council also plans to increase a separate contract for support for women who have suffered gender-based violence by 60 per cent.
