Mallorca sets ten woodcock hunting days on public land

Mallorca is allowing ten days of woodcock hunting on public land in the 2026–2027 season: hunters will need a ballot place before they can go out with a shotgun and pointing dog. The Mallorca Island Council has set out the rules in the Balearic Islands Official Gazette. Hunters must register in advance.

Three chances to register

The first registration period runs from 28 October to 3 November 2026. Hunters can then apply from 18 to 24 November for dates in December, and from 23 to 29 December for dates in January and February 2027. Ballots will take place on 12, 19 and 26 November.

Applicants can choose the hunting days they want. The council’s Hunting Service will assign a public estate according to available places and organisational needs. Hunters can take part alone or with one other hunter. Anyone offered a place will have no more than one day to accept or turn it down; declined places will go to others in ballot order.

Traditional thrush hunting at Tossals Verds

The rules also provide for the return of traditional thrush hunting using filats a coll at the public Tossals Verds estate on Mallorca. At least six hunting spots will be restored, with a planned maximum of twelve. Priority will go to historic spots with place names.

Hunting associations that practise filats a coll and belong to the Hunting Council will arrange turns for their members. They will also help find, prepare, clean and maintain the spots.

Environmental officers from the Mallorca Island Council will supervise both types of hunting. Participants must have valid hunting documents, follow officers’ instructions and report what they catch.
