Palma work accident leaves façade worker seriously injured
A 44-year-old façade worker was seriously injured in a work accident in Palma, Mallorca, on 17 August after falling from the fifth floor of a building on Carrer Metge Josep Darder. The fall occurred at about 12.30pm while he was carrying out maintenance work for a company specialising in work at height.
Initial inquiries indicate that the worker had been trying to replace the rope connected to his safety harness when its fixing failed. He struck a heavy vehicle used by the work crew before landing in the road.
He sustained multiple fractures and may also have suffered spinal injuries. Emergency service 061 took him to Son Espases University Hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition.
The National Police are investigating the incident as a suspected workplace accident, while Palma Local Police managed traffic to allow emergency teams to work. The Balearic Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is also examining the cause of the fall and is monitoring the worker’s medical condition.
