Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

In Palma, Mallorca, on 16 October, the Balearic government takes the first step towards a €5 million grant scheme for jobs for young unemployed people. The proposed 2027 scheme would fund one-year, full-time temporary posts in the regional administration and the University of the Balearic Islands. For now, the cabinet has given prior authorisation to launch the grant call; the jobs are not yet open.

Applicants would need to be over 18 and under 30, and registered as jobseekers with the Balearic Islands Employment Service (SOIB). The grants would cover wages and employers’ social security contributions.

Funding would be capped at €750,000 per organisation. Every organisation that applies and meets the conditions would receive enough for at least one hire, government spokesman Antoni Costa said after the cabinet meeting.
