Ibiza youth housing: five homes planned in Sa Penya
Five homes for young people are planned in the ruins beside Sa Pedrera in Sa Penya, Eivissa, Ibiza. Eivissa Town Hall has set aside €1.99 million, including VAT, for the scheme. The money comes from €4.7 million approved by the municipal council on Thursday for local housing policies.
Approval comes before building tender
The plan would fully restore the derelict site next to Sa Pedrera’s archaeological laboratory. But the PEPRI commission must first give its approval before the town hall can put the building work out to tender.
Mayor Rafael Triguero said the project and its funding are now in place. Once the necessary permissions arrive, the council intends to tender the work and turn the ruins into five homes for young people.
Ten-year residents get priority
People who can show they have been registered in the municipality of Eivissa for at least 10 years will receive priority when the homes are allocated. The town hall has yet to set the full allocation rules.
Housing councillor Lola Penín said the project is intended both to add public housing and to continue the residential and urban renewal of Sa Penya. Youth councillor Manu Jiménez said young people in Eivissa need specific support to build their lives in the town.
