Mallorca YouTuber gives €32,000 to bowel cancer research
Mallorca YouTuber David Triay’s fundraising campaign gives €32,000 to bowel cancer research at Son Espases University Hospital on Mallorca. The Balearic Islands health department announced the donation on Wednesday, 14 October. Triay, known online as “el Cromas”, has more than 11 million followers across social media.
Why Triay started raising money
Triay has seen bowel cancer, also called colorectal cancer, affect relatives and others close to him. He also had a colon problem that required surgery. During his treatment, he met Álvaro García, a colorectal surgeon at Son Espases. The health department said the experience showed Triay why research matters for preventing, diagnosing and treating the disease.
The fundraiser stays open
Triay has used his social media reach to raise awareness and funds. The health department said the campaign had drawn a strong response. All €32,000 will go to colorectal cancer research projects in the Balearic Islands.
The fundraiser remains open through the charity platform run by the IdISBa research institute.
