Torrent de Pareis
Description
The Torrent de Pareis is a gorge and seasonal stream on the north-west coast of Mallorca, set within the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana.
Gorge, Cove and Mountains
The Torrent de Pareis combines a deeply cut limestone gorge with a hidden sea cove. The sheer rock faces, clear water, and striking contrast of cliff, canyon and coastline make this one of the most dramatic natural landscapes on the island. Mountain goats picking their way along the slopes are a memorable part of the experience.
Getting There
The approach follows a winding mountain road full of hairpin bends — quite the drive in itself, and one that calls for patience, as cyclists also use the route. The cove itself is only accessible on foot, via a path that leads through a tunnel. A paid car park is available nearby.
Hiking and Scrambling Through the Gorge
Traversing the gorge demands sure-footedness, solid physical fitness, and sturdy footwear. The more challenging sections require coordination and hands-on scrambling; for the full route — roughly from the top down to the cala — experienced hikers strongly recommend a very early start. The gorge interior is physically demanding and can be dangerous in places. If you plan to visit the cove without retracing your steps, it's worth sorting out your return journey in advance — a taxi is one option worth considering.
