THE FROGS – 1st Amateur Theatre Competition

Performance of “THE FROGS” by CEPA Llevant as part of the 1st Amateur Theatre Competition at Teatre de Petra. SYNOPSIS: Dionysus, the god of theatre, disillusioned by the crisis of values—political, social and artistic—affecting society, decides to descend into the world of the dead to rescue a great poet and return a glimmer of hope to humanity. This is the starting point of Aristophanes’ The Frogs (405 BC), one of the oldest Greek comedies that has survived, in which a wild, absurd and deeply sarcastic adventure unfolds. A text that, surprisingly, enters into dialogue with the complexity and contradictions of the present. In this updated version, we play with these parallels to offer a fresh, critical and irony-filled view of the world we inhabit, while posing uncomfortable and “simple” questions: What is art for? Where is it going? And, above all, is there any point in criticising it?
