Ibiza animal abandonment cases carry €10,001 fines

Two female dogs found in a car park at sa Joveria, Ibiza, are waiting for adoption after being taken to the sa Coma animal protection centre. On 17 September, Eivissa Town Hall opened one of two new animal abandonment cases, each carrying a fine of €10,001. The dogs were in good physical condition when they were found.

Dogs remain at sa Coma

The dogs’ former owner did not have a licence, according to the council. The animals, classed as potentially dangerous, remain at sa Coma while the centre seeks adopters.

The second case concerns a Pomeranian that arrived at sa Coma in May 2025. The person registered on the dog’s microchip did not follow the legal requirements in such cases, the council said, leading to it being reported as an abandoned animal.

Fourteen cases already this year

Eivissa has recorded 14 animal abandonment cases so far this year, with accumulated fines of €140,000.14.

The council said it wants to tackle animal abandonment and encourage responsible pet ownership. People unable to care for an animal can formally surrender it through the sa Coma Animal Protection Centre.
