Palma plans 12 audible traffic lights at crossings
Palma, Mallorca, plans 12 more audible traffic lights to help people with sight loss know when to cross the road. The city council approved the devices on 22 October 2026 for several points across the city.
The plans cover Avenida Alexandre Rosselló at Calle Llorenç Vicens, the pedestrian crossing on Calle Pere Llobera at Calle Gabriel Llabrés, and the junction of Calle Torcuato Luca de Tena and Calle Bisbe Cabanelles. Two audible signals are also planned for the pedestrian crossings on Calle Aragó at Calle de l’Alber.
Palma already has 876 audible traffic lights on its road network. The additions will bring the total to 888. The council says the work responds to requests from ONCE: the signals will mark when it is safe to cross, helping people with sight loss move about more safely and independently.
