Blindfolded lunch in Mallorca puts four senses to work

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Palma, Mallorca: Guests at Andana restaurant eat lunch blindfolded on Friday, 2 October 2026, relying on touch, hearing, smell and taste instead of sight. The ONCE Social Group in the Balearic Islands holds the meal as part of its week of activities. Officials, public-sector representatives and members of the media take part.

Before lunch, two ONCE rehabilitation specialists explain where things are on the table. They use the clock-face system that blind people use to orient themselves, then guide guests through the meal.

ONCE says the lunch offers a glimpse of the difficulties blind people face in daily life and the techniques they use to manage independently. Among those taking part are Balearic health minister Manuela García and minister for Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care Sandra Fernández.
