Sa Pobla budget amendment of €1.8m approved as PP abstains

Sa Pobla Town Council in Mallorca approved a €1.8 million extraordinary budget amendment on Tuesday, 18 August, with eight votes in favour and seven abstentions. The local branch of the People’s Party (PP) abstained, citing two adverse reports from the council’s Intervención service.

PP spokeswoman Pedrona Seguí said the party supported investment in better streets, sports facilities and public services, but questioned the planning behind the measure and the stated order of priorities. She said the governing team should explain the concerns raised in the reports over a transaction of almost €1.8 million.

The amendment is financed from municipal reserves, according to the PP. Seguí said this required rigorous, responsible and transparent management, and argued that the investments had been brought forward too late in the council term.

The party also backed some of the planned projects while seeking clearer justification for their financial impact. It specifically asked for the technical reasons for proposing a seven-a-side football pitch rather than an 11-a-side pitch.
