Valldemossa bus crash: driver tests negative for alcohol and drugs

The driver of a Transport de les Illes Balears (TIB) bus involved in a fatal crash in Valldemossa, Mallorca, tested negative for alcohol and drugs after the incident on Monday, 18 August. A 36-year-old Syrian tourist died when a lamp post struck people who had just left the bus.

The Civil Guard Traffic Group is investigating and has taken statements from witnesses, including the dead man's partner.

According to the SAMU 061 emergency medical service and the Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility, the bus was leaving its stop at about 15:40 when it knocked down the lamp post. It then fell onto the group of passengers.

The victim died at the scene from unsurvivable injuries. His partner, a woman aged about 30, received treatment for an anxiety crisis, while a 42-year-old Mallorca resident suffered chest trauma. The bus driver was also treated after a panic attack.
